GREEN SQUARE - What design can do challenge

2016

This project comes from the participation of a competition: WHAT DESIGN CAN DO for refugees in urban area, organized by UNHCR and IKEA foundation.

Our goal was to create a collaborative place for the local and refugees to meet each other through interaction with plants.

From field research and interviews we gather insights, and a better understanding of the situation in France.

During the day, the refugees will have occupation allowing them to improve their skills, their psychological condition, to interact with others and to give a better image to local people. The sleeping shelters turn into vegetal walls with benches and tables during the day to organize activities and facilitate contact with host community.

Sharing plant and vegetables within the host community space can boost the neighborhood and bring the feeling of better security.
